DSA certifications
valid for school purposes
Centro Argos is authorised by the Regione Lazio to issue DSA certifications (Specific Learning Disorders) valid for school purposes. The certification is submitted to the school in order to access compensatory and/or dispensatory measures provided for by Italian school regulations.
What are DSA?
Specific Learning Disorders (DSA) are part of neurodevelopmental disorders and are characterised by difficulties in specific areas of learning. Dyslexia (reading disorder), dysgraphia and dysorthography (writing disorders), and dyscalculia (mathematical calculation disorder) may interfere with a child’s educational pathway, despite adequate intelligence and learning opportunities.
When is a DSA certification required?
The school usually reports learning difficulties to the family. The paediatrician then refers the child to an authorised centre for diagnostic assessment and certification. With a DSA certification, the school prepares a Personalised Educational Plan (PDP) and adopts appropriate compensatory and dispensatory measures.
How is the assessment for a DSA diagnosis carried out?
The assessment is carried out by a child neuropsychiatrist, a psychologist, and a speech therapist or a neuropsychomotor therapist. During the sessions, the child is given tests and tasks assessing reading, comprehension, writing, calculation, attention, and memory.
